THE BRIEF

Before the establishment of the Windsor-Essex Child and Youth Advocacy Centre, children were forced to recount their experiences multiple times to different professionals in various locations. This fragmented process often increased the very stress and anxiety the system was meant to alleviate.

The mission of the Centre was built on a singular promise: that a child should only have to tell their story once. The requirement was a compelling cinematic work to communicate this streamlined process by presenting a kinder and safer way forward for those in need.

THE VISION

Handling such sensitive subject matter required a balance of respect and narrative authenticity. The creative approach centers on the perspective of the youth, beginning with the initial police intervention and following the journey to the doors of the Centre.

By prioritizing the emotional experience of the protagonist, the film highlights the transition into a supportive and welcoming environment. This immersive storytelling method creates a powerful connection with the viewer while clearly defining the vital necessity of trauma-informed care.

THE IMPACT

The film successfully translated a complex systemic mission into a deeply engaging human story. Through evocative visual language and authentic performances, the work has become a primary tool for raising awareness and demonstrating why this specialized environment is vital for the community.

It stands as a definitive representation of the Centre’s values, proving that cinematic storytelling can bridge the gap between public policy and the human heart.
